Kidney Stone and my experience

31 08 2007

Well folks, here I am once again sitting down at my PC with a few minutes at hand to write another blog entry.

I can’t believe it’s almost 6 months since the last time! Wow, time goes by fast when you don’t pay attention.
If you ever see a person suffering when going to the bathroom… (Uh.. this only applies to men and the men’s restroom I guess) and grabbing his side, don’t laugh, pitty the poor man! If no one yet has an idea, here goes:

I have a 5mm Kidney Stone

No kidding. A few months ago I was in my office and got this strange hunger pain. Or so I thought at the time… so I rushed out and bought some food, took it all in with one breath but still the pain was there. I rushed out once again and bought some Coke, drank it all and still the pain was present.

A warning: From here on forward this story gets graphic. Please skip over the next paragraph if you are not interested in the horrible details!!!!!!!

I went home all freaked out and told my wife the story… after going to bed I had to get up and use the restroom, not only was the pain still there but I peed red. Yes, red pee, blood in my pee. As is suspected I got dressed and went to see the doctor. After subscribing me some pills, just in case there was an infection he sent me home.

The next morning the pain was so intense it woke me up, made me jump into some sweatpants and in the car in about 4 minutes… we went to the hospital. After some questions and some exams I was sent to the radiology for a final test to verify that we were in fact, dealing with a Kidney Stone.

I was injected a thick substance that went straight into my kidneys, I was asked to remain as still as possible for about 45 minutes. I was on the X-ray table waiting. After 5 minutes an X-ray was taken… my right kidney drained perfectly but there was a block on the left one. after about 5 more minutes the pain…. oh the pain… it got so much worse!

After complaining repeatedly about the pain and even having to throw up because of the pain (Nothing really came up, empty stomach) the Lab Dr. came in and asked me what pain killer the nurses had given me…. Would you believe that? I was supposed to get a pain killer before the test and NO ONE GAVE ME ANYTHING!!!!!!

About 30 minutes into the exam I was sent to get a pain killer, a really nice nurse took pitty on me and eased the pain killer into my blood stream…. to be honest.. the pain had alread eased down (I guess the substance had already moved through the kidney) but they gave a real nice pain killer anyway.

Back to the X-ray lab after about 15 minutes of full tranquility (I got to lie down on a bed for a while) and got the final X-ray. Yup the substance had moved down and a Kidney Stone could clearly be seen. That was that, I was sent home with pain killers and some pills to dilate the ureter, along with a “Drink a ton of water for the next few weeks”.

After a few weeks I went back for another x-ray and the stone had moved down almost nothing… another few weeks, same thing… it was really moving slowly! My urologist insisted that I get a Kidney-Ureter Catheter to get the liquids out of the Kidney constantly to avoid any Kidney damage… I agreed and set it up a few weeks later.

Went in to the hospital, the O.R., got general anesthesia, woke up and it was done. A few minutes after I got up, I felt like I really needed to pee….. So I tried…. AAAARRRGHHHH…….. yup, that hurt.

Well, it hurt for about 5 days…. the pain slowly decreasing day after day… but after about the 7th day all was fine. Back to Normal!!!

I continued my high water diet, even tried some tea remedies, strange colored water, bad tasting stuff… and after a month, I went in for a follow-up X-ray.
The stone had not only moved up the Ureter, but back into the Kidney and lodged itself in the lower most cavity!!!!!

My Urologist told me there was no choice but Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy. It’s non-invasive.. but does have some possible side effects, like Diabetes and internal bleeding….

I kinda want to avoid internal bleeding and my family does have a history of diabetes, so I was resisting this idea quite a bit. Plus, the urologist said that Maybe We Might Have To Repeat The ESWL.

Seeing that the stone was lodged in my kidney, I hung my head down and agreed… we would see him again to schedule. I went home sad, said a prayer or two and started doing a bit of research on the subject…..

(The following might sound like a sales pitch but trust me, it’s not….. Actually, I will name the product just because of how happy I am)

I found Uriflow. They said they could get rid of a stone in 30 days or my money back. I looked into it, found no negatives on the company or the product, placed my order and it arrived in 2 days.

I started taking the pills, one in the morning and one before dinner, followed by a large glass of water. I still continued to plan for the ESWL, but hoping and praying that the pills did the trick.

You will hear from many people say that Pills can not help with Kidney Stones, but hear me out. After taking almost half the pills I started to feel discomfort in my left side… kinda like the “hunger pains” from a few months ago.. I got really excited and started drinking more water!

I was about 3 days from finishing the 30 day bottle when I went in for an x-ray… Would you believe the stone not only came up from the bottom of the Kidney, but was about a third of the way down the Ureter!

I got home, finished my treatment and ordered a second bottle… it arrived Next Day! I’m 9 days into the new bottle and I continue to feel things moving around inside me!!!

I will get another x-ray either tomorrow or Monday to monitor the progress! God willing, He will allow me to avoid the extra danger and cost of the ESWL. Isn’t that exciting?!?!?!?!

I will let everyone know as soon as I know.

Well, seeing that it is way past anyone’s bed time…. I will head off to sleep. Keep me in your prayers and send good thoughts my way! =D

Once again, thanks for giving me these few minutes of your life!

Wow, that sounds good. I am a 42 female and been putting up with the pain for 2 weeks now, it really hurts the side and up the lower right of the back-ouch. When I went to ER I was holding my pain in, so they never suspected a kidney stone until they did a CT scan much quicker than your x-ray only 2 minutes and done. I too have order Uriflow and hope so badly that it works. I have an active 22 month old and no family around to help well my hubby is working so I need to get rid of this are I will have to fly someone out to help me. Anyways, it is very painful. I have to get the electrolisis done in Edmonton, Alberta and not looking forward to it, and it also does not always work. Thye never did tell me about the bleeding though, and I am a bleeder-yikes. I do find drinking lots of water does help. Good luck to you my friend-I share your pain. Let’s hope Uriflow helps us both :)
